The Butterfly Volunteers are a vital part of the hospital’s work. They provide comfort and companionship to patients and their families during the final days of life.
The volunteers are trained to provide emotional support to the patients and visitors by the bedside and are run by the inspirational Butterfly Volunteer Service Coordinator, Caroline Stevens.
The Butterfly Volunteer Service was established at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in partnership with the Anne Robson Trust in 2019 and currently has 31 Butterfly Volunteers who have completed more than 3,000 visits. The BBC have showcased the important work of the Butterfly Volunteers and the impact they have on patients and families. It featuress interviews with volunteers, staff at the hospital, including Chief Nurse Professor Nancy Fontaine, a Patron of the charity, and family members who have benefited from their support.
