Miles that Matter
Walk, run or wheel – just for fun, or in memory of someone you have loved and lost
‘Miles that Matter’ is the Anne Robson Trust’s virtual fundraising challenge in September. Take part wherever you are, however works best for you. It’s open to everyone of all abilities to take part. Set yourself a target, then complete your miles on foot, using a mobility aid, or by bike.

When: September 2025
Where: Wherever you wish
Distance: Your choice
Choose how to reach your distance goal. Go for a short walk every day in September, or tackle it in one epic trip.
Go solo or ramble with your family, friends or colleagues – the choice is yours.
Why should I take on Miles that Matter?
You’ll feel amazing inside and out as you accomplish your miles. Knowing that you are helping make a difference for people approaching the end of their life will add a spring to your step and motivate you to reach your distance goal.
If you are walking, running or wheeling in memory of someone, allow yourself to remember the time you shared with them, and celebrate their life in a way that is meaningful to you.

How your miles will help people
The generosity of people like you is the only reason we can provide companionship, comfort and support to people approaching the end of their life, and those they love.
- £10 could pay for a bedside visit to a patient dying in hospital
- £20 could help train volunteers to comfort someone who is dying
- £100 could pay for 10 people dying in hospital to receive a visit

Got questions? We have answers
How many miles do I have to do?
It’s your choice. Here are a few ideas:
- 14 miles – for the 14,000 visits that Butterfly Volunteers made to dying patients last year.
- 21 miles – for the 21,000 people we aim to support this year.
- Custom – Choose a distance that is a personal challenge for you.
And don’t worry – you have all month to complete your miles. Go big, or do a little at a time.
How much money do I have to raise?
We suggest a target of raising £200. If you can do more – go for it.
We will help you to set up your JustGiving page, to invite your friends, family and colleagues to support you.
