Anne Robson Trust CEO collects MBE at Buckingham Palace
Our Founder and CEO, Liz Pryor was awarded the Member of the British Empire Medal (MBE) at an Investiture Ceremony on Thursday 7th July, for services to end-of-life care. Liz was honoured by HRH Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace.
The Honour marks a significant time for our charity as the focus on end-of-life care has been under the spotlight during the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2018, Liz set up the Anne Robson Trust, a charity in memory of her mother, with the aim of improving care for people who are dying, particularly for those who find themselves alone.
Liz said: “I am hugely honoured to receive an MBE. I set up the Trust to create something positive following my mother’s death twelve years ago, receiving this award is an important milestone in recognising how vital it is to offer emotional support to people who are dying and their loved ones.”
The work of the Trust has never been more timely, in March the Government backed an amendment to the Health and Care Bill which now legally requires every part of England to provide specialist palliative care for patients.
“Tackling this challenging subject takes a special team. And I would like to share this award with all our staff, trustees, patrons, partner hospitals, volunteers, and supporters.”
“Despite difficult times, we continue to increase the scope of our Charity, we have doubled the size of our team this year, enabling us to further meet the ever-growing need for our services. We are working with NHS hospitals across the country and their volunteers have made over 10,000 visits to patient bedsides. We are passionate about improving end-of-life care and are committed to opening conversations about death and dying. If we can enable people to die well and facilitate an easier grieving process for those left behind, then we have achieved our aim.”
