Will Writing

Writing a will might seem daunting, but it is often a very simple process and one that brings peace of mind once completed.

Why should I write a will?

Writing a Will ensures that your belongings, property and money (your ‘estate’) are managed the way you want, putting you in control. It can give reassurance that your loved ones will be looked-after when you are gone. Writing a Will can also have tax benefits, or perhaps you just want your money to be spent in a certain way once you are gone. For example, you may wish for your money to be split between a charity, friends and family members.

When should I write a will?

Whatever your age, it is important to be in control of how your estate will be managed once you are gone. Many people write or update their Will when they buy a car or property, get married, have children, own precious items, or retire.

What goes in a will?

In your Will, you can state how you wish your estate to be managed, and leave instructions on things like funeral arrangements. You may choose to leave a specific amount of money, a specific item (a pecuniary gift); or you may specify for people or causes to receive a percentage of your estate (a residual gift). For example, you may leave a specific family member £1,000, and then leave 90% of the rest of your estate to your family and 10% to charity. How do I write a will?

Consult a legal professional if your estate is large or complex. Search for a local solicitor at Law Society or contact Ark Powers, who donate 10% of their fee to the Anne Robson Trust if you mention us.

Online or via phone – The Anne Robson Trust has partnered with Kwil, so you can make a FREE premium will in less than 30 minutes.

However you choose to write your Will, please mention the following:

The Anne Robson Trust, A3 & A4 Mindenhall Court, 17 High Street, Stevenage, Herts, SG1 3UN. Registered charity no. 1178352.

How does a donation to the Anne Robson Trust in my Will help people at the end of their life?

With no government or NHS funding, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to deliver our work helping people before they die. Without your donations, we would be unable to help hospitals to set up teams of volunteer visitors, or to support family members on the phone.

After looking after your loved ones, leaving a gift to the Anne Robson Trust in your Will is the perfect way to make a lasting difference for a cause you believe in.

A hand to hold. A listening ear. The presence of another person. These simple things become invaluable in the precious final days and hours of life.

Make a will with a solicitor

If you have a large or complicated estate, or complex needs, a solicitor can help advise you to make a will, considering your personal circumstances, your assets, and your wishes. You should speak to a solicitor if you have:

  • A large or complicated estate, or complex needs – for example, trust income, property overseas, dependent relatives, or ongoing legal issues.
  • Any concerns around mental capacity.
  • If your estate will be subject to inheritance tax.

We have partnered with accredited will writers A R K Lasting Powers & Wills, who offer will writing services via zoom, phone call, or in-person (at their Stevenage office). If you would like them to write your will, please mention The Anne Robson Trust and they will donate 10% of their fees to us (at no extra cost to you).

If you already have a will, you can ask your solicitor to update your will to include a gift to us. They will take you through the necessary steps to do this.

If you decide to leave a gift to us in your will, please quote:
