No-one deserves to die alone

We believe that everyone deserves to have the comfort and companionship of another human being as they die, and the support to prepare for the end of their life.
Meet Anne Robson
Anne spent a week in hospital. During this time, her family learned in the most painful way imaginable about the challenges faced by the NHS in caring for elderly people – and the impact this can have on patients and their loved ones.
We support people facing the end of their life
Our vision is for everyone to receive the support they need to face the end of life – whether their own or that of someone close to them. No one deserves to die alone.
Let's bring companionship to people facing the end of life
Help us bring companionship to people facing the end of life
£10 could pay for two bedside visits to patients dying in hospital.
£20 could help train volunteers to comfort someone who is dying.
£100 could pay for 20 people dying in hospital to receive a visit
The power of our partnerships
Far too many people face the end of their life in isolation. Working alongside our healthcare partners, we are proud that thousands of patients and their families have been supported.
What we do
"If we can make a difference to even a few people facing the end of life – and help them to get as close as possible to a ‘good’ death – it makes it all worthwhile.” - Liz Pryor MBE, Founder

Inspiring stories
“Thank you to all the volunteers for visiting Dad and spending time with him. The work you all undertake is very important and is a great comfort to family and friends as it is not always possible to be with Dad all day. Dad was sleeping peacefully most of the time and I am grateful that he ended his last few days this way. Thank you for all your kindness.”

“As a family we have been overwhelmed by the support we have been given by the Butterfly team. Every single volunteer has been an absolute angel and made this very sad time so much easier. From the bottom of our hearts we would like to thank you so much. The hub has been so peaceful and comforting for us. Love to everyone who makes this happen.”

“I chatted to the patient's two daughters, who had been sitting with their mum for the past five days. They asked lots of questions about the death process and what was happening. I gave them a booklet and talked to them about what might happen. The family were very happy with their mum's care.”
