Our friend and supporter Ben Purser is not letting age stand in the way of his next fitness challenge. To mark his 80th birthday, Ben has set himself a tough target: to tackle 80km on foot, by bicycle and on the water by the time he reaches his special day at the end of August. That’s a staggering 240km in 4 weeks – we’re exhausted just thinking about it!
“As I approach my 80th birthday, I thought I’d challenge myself to a 3 x 80k ‘triathlon’. Despite recently cracking a rib, I’m not letting that stop me. I intend to walk 80km, then paddle 80km in a kayak before finally getting on my bike for the last leg of the challenge.”
Ben’s intention is to keep his activity as coastal as possible:
When we asked Ben how he feels about this huge challenge, he said: “I know how hard it will be to raise money in today’s difficult times, but if I can raise funds for the 2 causes close to my heart then I’ll be a happy octogenarian! The 2 charities that I’ve chosen to support are the RNLI in Torbay, near where I live, and the Anne Robson Trust, where my daughter Jo works.”
We’re honoured that Ben has selected us as one of his chosen charities and would like to take this opportunity to wish Ben the best of luck and an early Happy Birthday!!
