We are humbled by the calls we have received and committed to being a trusted service for people to turn to and talk about the end of life.
“I called the helpline when I felt I had no-one else to talk to when my partner was diagnosed with a terminal illness. It was a relief to speak to someone who understood the shock I was experiencing and they allowed me the space to talk through my difficult feelings.”
“When I received the news that my father only had a few weeks to live, I was devastated and felt that I couldn’t cope with breaking the news to my children. I rang the helpline and we explored ways in which I might help them come to terms with losing their grandad even though I was struggling and in pain myself. I called the helpline a few times whilst my dad was dying and they really helped me through this terrible time.”
“My grandad was dying in hospital but we were not allowed to visit him due to the Covid lockdown. We missed him terribly, and so I rang the helpline and it was helpful to look at ways we might be able to still be in contact with him. At times I was very distressed when I thought he was alone and talking to someone so calm and supportive was amazing.”
“Speaking to the lovely people on the helpline helped me when I was feeling at my lowest ebb. I rang the helpline when I was losing my mum to cancer. The pain I felt was overwhelming and speaking to someone helped me through one particularly awful day. Thank you for being there when I needed a warm and kind human being on the end of the phone when I couldn’t think of who else to call.”
