Nicki has had a diverse career both within the NHS and the Third Sector.
After qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in 1982 at the Charing Cross Hospital in London she went on to work in Accident and Emergency, General Surgery and Pediatrics.
After taking time out to raise her three daughters she returned to the workforce in 2008 to take up her first role with the British Red Cross.
During her ten years with the organisation Nicki managed a range of different services, recruiting and training teams of volunteers to respond to people in crisis. Her passion for ensuring volunteers were fully equipped to offer effective emotional support led her to become a trainer for the organisation.
Wanting to find a role to combine her NHS experience with her passion for working with volunteers Nicki joined The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow in January 2019 as the very first Butterfly Volunteer Coordinator.
‘It has been such a privilege to coordinate and develop the Butterfly Team at PAH and to work in partnership with the Anne Robson Trust. It has given me such valuable insight into the need and importance of this service and the real difference Butterfly Volunteers are making to patients, their families and hard working nursing staff.’
