Dying Matters Week 2024

The 6th May marks the start of Dying Matters Week. A campaign very close to our hearts at The Anne Robson Trust.

Dying Matters Week is a campaign run by Hospice UK and follows a theme each year. This year’s theme, ‘The way we talk about dying matters’, is designed to encourage people to open up and talk about death and dying more freely.

As usual, we’ve got behind the campaign, asking a whole array of people the question, ‘Do you think talking about Dying Matters?’ The response we’ve had is astounding.

Let’s start off with the professionals we work with. As you’d expect, these professionals actively encourage speaking openly about dying.

‘Being open and honest with family members helps you prepare for something that’s inevitable.

Not only did we ask hospital professionals, but Jason and Abbey from our office also took to the streets of Stevenage to ask members of the public their thoughts on this all-important question.

They were pleasantly surprised at the response of the general public, many keen to share their thoughts on why they think talking about dying matters.

“Everyone gets upset, but I believe it should be a celebration of your life when you die.”

“It’s really important so we can plan for when the time comes’.”

As we navigate through Dying Matters Week, it’s evident that these conversations are not only crucial but also deeply impactful.

By encouraging open dialogue, we honour the sanctity of life and embrace the reality of death as an integral part of the human experience. Let us continue to share, to listen, and to learn.
